Celebrating + next available design time slots

Hello dear one,

As someone who absolutely adores celebrating (it may be one of my favorite words to use because the word in and of itself evokes joy and gratitude within my energetic system), I am just dropping into your inbox today to share some things that I have been celebrating within the work that I do as a designer.

Celebrating 20 years of web design
+ summer sabbatical

A month ago or so, I realized that I have been crafting websites and playing with different forms of graphic design for 20 years!

I coded my first website from scratch in 1997 - when the internet was a totally different place. While it was definitely a humble website that was basically a list of my favorite things, the creation process was something that totally lit me up and inspired me.

From there I went on to design a website focused on educating the public around environmental concerns, and even had a newsletter list where I would focus on a different important topic of the month, like the life + work of Rachel Carson or new innovations in technology.

As time moved forward into the 00's, I started to create websites, still from scratch, that served as a showcase for my artwork, poetry, and photography.

I became a part of a circle of girl-designers, and we would inspire each other to the point where most of us were creating total re-designs of our sites on a monthly basis.

It was a win-win situation - I got to continue to experience being in a state of creative flow while creating this vessel to share my other forms of artwork with a larger community.

I took a break from the web design scene for quite some time after that, and focused my creativity on visual art for the next decade or so.

But then web design began to call my name again as I began my journey as a spiritual entrepreneur for Drawing Within. All of the joy, play, and deep satisfaction of building an online space came flooding back to me as I crafted my website for this new adventure, this time on the Squarespace platform.

And just like that, my love and passion for digital design became fully re-ignited.

It was just a few months into the set up of my own personal online sacred space that other spiritual entrepreneurs began asking me if I could help them with their own design projects. And from there, Drawing Within Design was born.

I feel like I have learned more in the past couple of years than I did in my first decade of web design...and it has been such a luscious and rewarding experience to navigate through a process of sacred co-creation and collaboration with each one of my design clients. Whether I am crafting a full website, an ebook, promotional material, or a logo...the creation process fills me with such awe and gratitude.

I am so honored to be able to serve others in doing this work.

To celebrate the creation of my first website back in June of '97, I am going to treat myself to a 2 month creative sabbatical for the months of June and July of this year.

I am really excited to see what comes forth during this time! I am planning on doing a lot of design play, professional development...and also am hoping to be able to do some visiting of family in England.

This means that if you have been contemplating working with me for a design project, that I currently have just a few spots available for the remainder of the year in mid-May, August, and October.

As I am usually booked out months in advance, I wanted to give you a heads up if you have a design project you're envisioning to co-create together in the upcoming months.

You can learn more about what it looks like to work together by downloading my Prices and Process PDF or by looking through my portfolio.

I would be delighted and honored to work with you in the upcoming months. Tell me about your project by filling out my contact form here.

A gift for you...

In the spirit of deepening your spiritual practice and creating time for yourself...

I thought about my own personal time sink:: the internet & my phone.

& then I thought - what if I had a reminder on my phone/desktop to give me a little nudge towards doing the important work?

As I was browsing through the wonderful Unsplash for images for this wallpaper project, I came upon the images that you see above.  Later on, I found out that these photographs were taken by my friend Misty Pittman...and so, serendipitously, a collaboration was born.

Make time for your spiritual practice.

So.  I've decided to do something crazy.

I am going to write and illustrate a book.

Here are the details::

I am Elle North:  I am a creatrix at the core of my being.  My purpose in life is to teach...and I do so here at Drawing Within by teaching courses to spirited students all over the world about Tarot, Meditation, Yoga, & Intuition.  I also am a designer...and build webpages, create ebooks, and manifest logos and promotional material for myself and spirited entrepreneurs.

This project combines all of my interests:  art, teaching, spirituality, & design.

I am writing and illustrating a book.

The purpose of my book is to guide readers to develop their own spiritual practice...and to encourage readers to take time for their spiritual practice...because that's where the magic is at.

I will be creating the bulk of the writing and illustrations for this book during the month of October, 2015, and will be putting the finishing touches on it in November.  My goal is to have the book released and ready for you to have on your altar by the end of November, 2015.

It is my goal to have my book for purchase here on my site, on Amazon, and in local & independent book stores & yoga studios around the world.  Know of a sweet bookshop or yoga studio that would like to carry my book?  Click the contact me button to tell me all about it.

This is a three-part answer::

1.  As a spiritual teacher and spiritual mentor, the  number one thing that my students and tribe said over and over again is "I want to integrate a spiritual practice into my day...but I don't have the time."  I wanted to make something that would solve this problem...so I brainstormed for a month...

2.  Then, one day, I was walking around a bookstore and I saw, no joke, a series of journals for whisky, wine, and beer.  I thought the idea was cool - you drink, record, enjoy, and remember.  Then I thought -- I would love one of  these journals, but for meditation, yoga, mantras, mudras....

3.  Then, I remembered how having a daily journal for couples (by the ah-mazing Alexandra Franzen) on my bedside table reminded me every night to open up the journal and connect with my husband.  Just having it there was the reminder for a daily practice...

And so, 108 Days of Sacred Intention was born

For this book, I am creating 108 drawings to correspond to 108 prompts for the 108 days.

When I draw, I like to have photographs as a reference.  At first, I was thinking of taking selfies of myself in certain yoga postures, meditating, and holding my hands in different mudras...but that felt boring.  I wanted the book to be visually interesting and have a variety of people, bodies, skin tones represented.

So, I asked my wonderful tribe if they would help me in participating in this project.  Within a couple of days, more than 60 participants signed up to be given a photo prompt by myself.  Many of them have published their photo on social media with #108daysofsacred - check it out on Facebook and Instagram to see the beauty that is happening...

I'd be delighted if you would help to spread the word by sharing this link with your own tribe...

A huge update

Hello loves!

It has been a crazy 6 months since I've last updated the blog.  In addition to making a huge move, launching courses over at Drawing Within, and design work...I've sort of forgotten to write about it here.

Here are some highlights of what I've created over the past few months:

Carina Lyall is a mindfulness meditation teacher who sees the beauty and power of the ordinary.  Carina approached me with the desire to completely re-design her website.  I helped her to make the switch from Wordpress to Squarespace, and designed a site that resonated with her brand - clean, simple, and bright.  I helped to set Carina up with a shop, and created some images for her products that spoke to the magic that Carina makes with her offerings. Carina is such a kind and genuine soul...and she's so clear about her mission in this world...you can't help but feel present and in the moment after reading her words.

I also had the pleasure of working on the the branding and sales page for Carina's course, Awake in the Ordinary.

Elle is one of the most intuitive, gentle and spot on designers I have ever worked with. She gave me more than I could have dreamt of and I feel that she knew me like a close friend. Going from a so so site, to having a space that truly represents what I do and who I am would never have happened without her listening skills and sense of detail. I would never hesitate to work with Elle again.

When Tara of Cosmic Soul Medicine approached me about creating an album cover for a totally transformative meditation track, I was totally elated.  I had the honor of listening to the Eon before it was released so that I could have some inspiration while working on the design, and ended up listening to it non-stop on a cross-country flight.  It kept me so calm...while also causing me to be totally inspired.  If you're looking for any astrological insight, Tara is your girl.  She resonates with the vibration of numbers and planets to create truly unique and magical offerings.

Oh, and...Tara is offering Eon completely free over here!

Elle North is a visionary’s dream!

She has a phenomenal gift to fully receive the essence of what you desire, and through such an elegant and empowering creative process....give you MORE than you could have ever imagined!

There are worlds of sensory experience etched within the layers of her work that not only captivate, but somehow translate and give form to that which is undefinable.

I never knew that co-creating with Elle on this meditation track cover would elevate and expand what it could be to such levels.

It truly is an honor to have her essence forever etched into this creation.

Now while I cannot take credit for Danielle Cohen's gorgeous photograph and design for her transformational course, Delicously Embodied, I had the delight of helping out with the automation and gentle proofing of the course.  Danielle wanted ease with the course e-mails, and I helped set up the flow so that Danielle was able to focus on writing her course as opposed to the behind-the-scenes work. Danielle's words in Deliciously Embodied created a huge shift in the way I see my body.  You can sign up for the course here. Danielle also takes stunning photographs...you can see her portfolio here.

When Naaz Ali of Sacred Earth Elements approached me with her totemic mala project, it was a perfect match.  She envisioned totemic images to go along with each piece of jewelry as a compliment to her design. I used images from Creative Commons Zero sources that combined in the most ethereal of ways using some Photoshop magic.  It is a pure delight to see these images printed out on paper and paired with each of their respective malas...Naaz' s work truly embodies the sacred.  I love how she works with the energy of crystals to transform her jewelry into true treasures.

Elle does such beautiful work. I wanted some very specific designs for my totem animals, and Elle really went the extra mile and delivered designs that were beyond my expectations! I absolutely love how everything turned out.
